At Jackson State University, an NCAA Division I historically black college and university, a Mexican American woman is the first female kicker.

Before the team’s September 23 game against rival Bethune-Cookman University, Leilani Armenta told CNN that she was anxious, but she also understood that she had a duty to fulfil. She insisted that the game was the only thing on her mind.

I said to myself at first, “Okay, I’m playing.” Armenta then declared, “I’m playing football.”
